Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team known as D’Tigers are back on the social media trends.
D’Tigers suffered an 82-89 loss to Libya in their opening game of the qualification series.
In their second group game, they were blown out 72-62 by Uganda.
In their third qualification game during the February window, D’Tigers suffered a 78-62 blowout loss to Cape Verde.
D’Tigers explains 3 2025 Afrobasket qualifiers
Cape Verde denied D’Tigers a spot at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup and with this recent defeat, a spot at the Afrobasket is in jeopardy.
After the first round of qualifiers, D’Tigers have now explained the difficulty of getting a good start.
The team pulled out of the qualification series because of funds and only opted in after intervention by the Federal Government.
Speaking after the first round of qualifiers, Bright Osagie Akhuetie said, “Coming out here even without practicing.
“We have to structure and prepare as a team.
“Imagine if we stayed together for a month. we would’ve done better.”
D’Tigers now have to win all three qualification games in November if they are to qualify for the 2025 Afrobasket.
