Nigerian journalist slams Osimhen’s doubters after brilliant hattrick for Napoli

Victor Osimhen has been in fine form since he returned to Napoli from AFCON duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Super Eagles star striker Victor Osimhen proved his critics wrong in spectacular fashion with a mesmerising hattrick against Sassuolo in the Serie A showdown on Wednesday night.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Osimhen’s brilliant showing prompted Nigerian journalist Solace Chukwu to speak, delivering a powerful statement in defence of the Nigerian striker.

Journalist defends Osimhen

Moments after the 25-year-old led Napoli to the sensational away performance at Sassuolo on Wednesday night, the senior editor at Pulse Sports took to his social media account to pen a note.

“Almost as if neither a clearly uncharacteristic rough patch nor a system that required him to run himself into the ground for the benefit of the team at AFCON should have invalidated Victor Osimhen’s status as an elite no.9 in the eyes of any rational human being,” Chukwu declared on Twitter, affirming Osimhen’s undeniable talent and skill on the pitch.

Osimhen’s remarkable display against Sassuolo marked his fifth goal in just three matches since returning from AFCON 2023, where he faced scrutiny after scoring just one goal in seven matches as the Super Eagles reached the final.

Many football followers and fans had questioned Osimhen’s quality despite Nigeria’s ultra-defensive approach under manager Jose Peseiro’s guidance during the tournament.

However, Osimhen’s excellent hattrick against Sassuolo silenced the doubters and reaffirmed his status as one of the most formidable strikers in the Serie A and the world.

With his electrifying pace, work rate and clinical finishing, Osimhen demonstrated why he remains a force to be reckoned with on the footballing stage.

Osimhen’s performance against Sassuolo is a clear reminder to those who may have forgotten why the Super Eagles star was named African Footballer of the Year for 2023 following a historic season for club and country.

Fans will now eagerly anticipate more inspiring performances from the Nigerian striker as Napoli look to return around what has been a poor title defense in the Serie A.
