The Atlanta Hawks are bracing for an indefinite period without center Onyeka Okongwu due to a sprained toe.
The absence of Okongwu exacerbates the team’s front-line depth concerns following the All-Star break.
Coach Quin Snyder unexpectedly revealed that Okongwu won’t be available for the foreseeable future, contrary to initial expectations of a week to 10 days.
Hawks’ Onyeka Okongwu out indefinitely
This injury places added responsibility on backup Bruno Fernando, who has been logging increased minutes.
Okongwu’s absence is a blow, given his progress and contributions, impacting the Hawks’ standing in the Eastern Conference as they vie for a playoff spot.
“Even before Clint went out you could just see his progress,” Snyder said.
“He’s getting better in a lot of areas and some of the things he does and does well gives us another dimension on both ends of the floor.”
